Abstract : A multiresidue method has been developed for the analysis of four triazine herbicides and three of their metabolites. The analytes are isolated from water samples by solid-phase extraction on Envi-Carb carbon-based material; this is followed by GC-MS SIM determination. The extraction efficiency is checked by addition of a surrogate standard, atrazine-d5, to each sample before analysis; results are then calculated with reference to an internal standard. The method enables quantitative recovery of all the compounds analysed. Recoveries varied from 95.5 to 109.0% with RSD from 4.4 to 17.5%, depending on the compound. It was possible to achieve limits of detection as low as 0.01 μg L-1 for all the compounds except deethyldeisopropylatrazine and deethylatrazine, because of their poorer gas chromatographic behaviour.
