Abstrakty : Two relationships correlating the retention factor (lnk(i)) of the ith solute of a given set of congeners either with its boiling point (TB(i)) and molar volume (Vm(i)), or alternatively with its boiling point and molar refraction (Rm(i)) have been interpreted thermodynamically. These two relationships were considered applicable to partition gas chromatography and their validity was thoroughly confirmed by GC of selected oxygenated compounds (aliphatic aldehydes and ketones) as congeneric sets of solutes. The results of this GC experiment are presented elsewhere.
