Abstrakty : The Quaternary Andahua volcanic group in southern Peru has been studied by present author since 2003. The Andahua Group stretches out at intervals within an area, which is 110 km long and 110 km wide. Seven regions bearing centres of volcanic eruptions have been distinguished: the Valley of the Volcanoes, Antapuna, Rio Molloco, Laguna Parihuana, Rio Colca Valley, Jaran, and Huambo. The Valley of the Volcanoes, where the Andahua Group was identified for the first time, contains the biggest variety of volcanic landforms. The valley is covered by a nearly 60 km long, continuous cover of lava flows. 165 individual eruption centres of the Andahua Group were distinguished including apparent pyroclastic cones, 50–300 m high, and usually smaller lava domes and fissure vents. Domes, eruptive vents and lava craters greatly outnumber pyroclastic cones. Most commonly, lava flows start from lava domes or craters. Small domes are often aligned along their feeding fissures. Lava domes and pyroclastic cones of the Andahua Group are aligned mainly along N–S and WNW–ESE trending fault systems. Projection points of the analysed Andahua lavas on the TAS diagram concentrate in the lower part of the trachyandesite field, entering also the basaltic trachyandesite or trachyte/trachydacite fields.

Abstrakty : Palynological studies have been done to compare the Upper Ordovician strata in various geological units of northern and central Poland (epi-Caledonian Platform, East European Platform, Małopolska Block and Holy Cross Mountains–Łysogóry Fold Zone and Kielce Fold Zone). Two distinct palynological assemblages have been distinguished in the studied material: the Caradoc assemblage I and the Ashgill assemblage II (with two sub-assemblages IIa and IIb), thus demonstrating usefulness of the Upper Ordovician palynomorphs for biostrati- graphy. Thermal maturity of organic matter was studied using the TAI method. The palynological analysis, palynostratigraphy, and estimates of thermal maturity were done with the aim at palynological characterization of three ancient units: the Avalonia, Baltica and the Małopolska Block, all now participating in structures of the present-day geological units of northern and central Poland.

Abstrakty : A block development operation at the “Rudna” copper mine (KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.) encountered a “compressed gas trap” that caused the ejection of fragmented rock material into a drift. Faced with a new threat of gas ejection the mine needed to find methods to identify potential gas concentration zones prior to any further exploration work. Surface seismic surveying was chosen as a widely-accepted standard method of investigating rockmass structure and tectonics and pinpointing natural gas deposits. An area of one square kilometre was selected directly above the ejection site, a 3D seismic survey, known as Duża Wólka 3D, was performed and a survey well S-421A was drilled. The objective was to investigate the overall rock structure, especially the structure of Zechstein and top Rotliegendes formations, as well as to attempt identifying anomalous zones, which could be linked with the gas saturation of Ca1 dolomites, on the 3D seismic image at the P1 level (Zechstein/ Rotliegendes boundary). An interpretation of multi-scenario seismic modelling of the recorded data helped to: – recognize the structure and tectonics of the area, including minor faults cutting through the top-level Rotliegendes formations and floor-level Zechstein formations. Such faults could constitute migration channels for Carboniferous-period gases, – locate zones with nearly zero-reflection amplitude at the surface of the top-level Rotliegendes (P1 seismic boundary), which would suggest a reduction of elastic parameters of the Ca1 dolomite. This reduction could be linked to an increased porosity and fracturing of the dolomite and its saturation with gas (a reduction of the seismic wavelet propagation velocity). Credibility of this interpretation is already partly corroborated by data from wells drilled in the Zechstein limestone by the mine. The paper presents the first in the world attempt to use the surface seismic survey for location of zones with small gas concentration in porous rocks at the Zechstein/Rotliegendes boundary. Such zones should not be identified with gas pools that occur in the Zechstein Limestone (Ca1) in the area of the Fore-Sudetic Monocline.

Abstrakty : The Upper Badenian and Sarmatian sandstones from eight wells of the Carpathian Foredeep Basin have been studied. The following research methods were used: petrographic analysis with the use of polarizing microscope (staining analysis, cathodoluminescence studies – CL, porosity determinations, fluid inclusion ana- lysis), scanning electron microscope (SEM) investigations and energy dispersive spectrometer studies (EDS ISIS), X-ray diffraction analyses (XRD), isotopic analysis and petrophysical studies. The sandstones are very-fine to medium-grained subarkosic and sublithic arenites and wackes. The main components of the sandstone grain framework are quartz, feldspars (potassium feldspar and plagioclase), lithoclasts (fragments of carbonate rocks, clastic rocks, granitoids, volcanic rocks and quartz-mica schists) and micas (mainly muscovite). Bioclasts (mainly foraminifera), glauconite, ooids, organic matter and accesory minerals are subordinate. Pore spaces between the grains are filled by matrix and by cement (mostly Fe-calcite, quartz overgrowth, dolomite, siderite and kaolinite). The Middle Miocene sandstones show good and very good filtration abilities. Sandstones porosity very often exceeds 20% and permeability is above 100 mD. Primary intergranular porosity is considerably more frequent than secondary intragranular porosity (mainly dissolution of feldspar grains) and intercrystalline porosity (clays microporosity). Effects of the following diagenetic processes can be observed in the sandstones: compaction, cementation, dissolution, replacement and alteration. Primary porosity reduction in sandstones was predominantly caused by mechanical compaction by about 26% and cementation, mainly by calcite, by approximately 35% on the average. Some increase in porosity was caused by dissolution of detrital grains, mainly feldspars, and decay of the soft parts of organisms. Diagenetic and related reservoir properties evolution of the Middle Miocene sand- stones have been accomplished during eo- and mesodiagenesis.

Abstrakty : Geological mapping works, conducted on 1:50,000 litho-petrographic map sheets of the South Baltic coast and the eastern part of the Pomerania Lakeland, show a clear relationship between large landforms of this area, like: subglacial channels, Wieżyca Hill, the ice lobe that accumulated Gardno moraine deposits, and sub-Quaternary relief. These landforms came into existence as a result of reactivation of pre-existing fault zones in the sub-Cainozoic basement, due to the ice mass loading during successive Pleistocene ice-sheet advances. Subglacial channels developed and thick tills and ice-dammed lake deposits were accumulated in the region. The subglacial channels and morainic belts are now dominating landforms in the Pomeranian Lakeland.
